Outdoor Scenography Consultant – Montmorency Cultural Infrastructure
The City of Laval is developing a major cultural infrastructure project in the Montmorency district, bringing together the Anne-Marie-Alonzo Central Library and the Lysane-Gendron Centre for Professional Artistic Creation under one roof. A first of its kind in Canada, this flagship project aims to transform the area into a vibrant, accessible, and sustainable living environment.
Involved from the early planning stages, Creos brought its scenographic expertise together with that of the City’s teams, architects, and landscape designers. This close collaboration helped ensure the technical feasibility and seamless integration of the outdoor cultural spaces, envisioned as a true living laboratory aligned with the site’s architectural and environmental ambitions.
To transform this space into a true living laboratory where art constantly renews engagement with the public, our intervention focused on the following areas.
Key Project Components
- Defining the purpose of the outdoor spaces: Working collaboratively with project stakeholders to define the role of the outdoor area surrounding the cultural infrastructure and inform the development of a cultural programming and activation scenario.
- Technical and scenographic specifications: Developing specifications for rigging systems on walls and ceilings, architectural lighting, projections onto the Université de Montréal building, and operational surveillance cameras.
- Flexible furniture and signage: Establishing criteria for multifunctional, fully removable furniture and adaptable signage.
- Technical infrastructure: Defining requirements for electrical, sound, lighting, and projection equipment.
- Centralized technology control: Defining requirements for a climate-controlled technical room to centralize the control of all on-site technologies.
- Year-round operations: Planning for operational requirements and constraints, including camera surveillance and snow removal, to support optimal year-round use of the outdoor spaces.
