Sainte‑Cath Works competition

The City of Montreal has launched a multidisciplinary design competition to reduce negative impacts by means of enhancements to the Sainte‑Catherine Street West construction site.

This important construction project, which will start in 2017, aims to rebuild underground infrastructures and introduce a new urban design along Sainte‑Catherine Street between Mansfield and De Bleury streets. This project will inevitably have a major impact on the downtown area. For this reason, the Infrastructures, Roads and Transportation Service of the City of Montreal, in collaboration with the Design Office, has decided to establish a new design competition aimed at generating innovative solutions to maintain pedestrian traffic at the site, to optimize transportation, and to more effectively communicate information about the site and its future design. The eventual goal of the competition will be to select and provide a mandate to a team that will be responsible for refining its winning proposal, producing plans and cost estimates, and providing ongoing support to a contractor (or producer) who will create, deploy and maintain the elements of their design concept throughout the 4 years of construction work.

The competition will have two stages. The first stage will be anonymous and open to all designers, and will lead to the selection of 5 finalists based on a simplified outline. In stage 2, the five finalists will be paid to submit more detailed outlines and a budget overview.

The jury, in which Creos will participate, will be responsible first for selecting the 5 finalists, and then for selecting the winner of the competition.
